In the large, busy and fast growing city of Nazareth is nestled a Jesus-time village called Nazareth Village. The contrast between the Jesus'-day village and the bustling city in the background was striking.
People dress in period costume portraying what it may have looked like in Jesus' day, enacting roles like shepherd, spinster and carpenter.

The terraced hillsides were covered with flowers. These yellow daisy-like flower is everywhere you go in Israel right now (except the desert of course).

The olive tree is almost indestructible.Chop it down, burn it - it grows back. Cut it in half and stick the cut half in the ground - a new tree grows!
Jesus worked with wood, but also worked with stone. Carpenters in those days would use mostly stone and some wood in buildings.
Maybe this is where the dreidel came from. =)
Jesus would have read the Torah in the synagogue in Nazareth. Every male from bar mitzva and up would take turns reading on the Sabbath.
Some of Jesus' parables came alive while walking through the village.
If you cut the corner columns in half, and look at the cross cut, it would be the shape of our heart symbol. =)
We had yummy shawarma at an Arab deli and sat out on the sidewalk table to eat.
